Curing live rock.

Hello all,

Thanks so far for all the help!

About to cure many lbs of old dry rock. I've got a garbage can, heater, and pump. Getting the saltwater mixed up tomorrow.

questions

Do I need to add a certain percentage of lbs of live rock to the dead rock? Or just a few pieces?

About how long does this normally take?

Do I monitor the curing of the rocks like a new tank cycling? Looking for nitrates, and they should spike and then drop?

Also...LFS told me to get the salinity to 1.022....that lower salinity will help them cure faster, more oxygen.

Any advice will be awesome!

Old live rocks can store nitrates phosphorus and copper or ???
Do you know the history of your old live rock?

Cycling is The same, but it helps to know where the rocks came from and what they are ( or might) leach into the water when you start soaking them.
Either way;
Test the water after a day or so for phosphorus and nitrates and copper if the rocks were used in a tank that was treated for pests.
