I'll be purchasing some pukani rock from BRS in a few weeks for my new build. Since I already have a tank up and running and do water changes weekly, can I save my discarded SW to use for the first phase of curing my pukani?

I have no problem mixing fresh SW for the cure... just seems like recycling some old SW could be a good thing?

As long as you aren’t worried about something you have in your display making its way into your new rock, there is no harm in using the old water change water. I like this approach as it brings over some bacteria and detritus from the old tank to help seed the new rock.

My DT tank is pretty clean for the most part. I also thought bacteria & nutrients being transferred to the new rock would be a good thing.

Another question... how long can old SW be stored before I actually use it for curing? For example, I think I'll need 2 water changes to get the right amount of water for my curing. So I'll need to store week 1's water change before I can combine it with water change 2 to start the curing process. Is a week to long for storing?
