Curing Rock Questions? Today I finally got the last of the RO/DI water put in my tank. My TDS dual inline meter says everything is at 0 right now. I put salt in there. Put sand in there and just put my dead rocks I got from the same person on Craig's List I got my tank, stand, and most of my equipment from.

I am trying to figure out how long it will take to get my rock to cure back to live rock again? Also trying to see if there is anything I didn't do already that I need to do to get my dead rock to be alive again?

Thanks for any help!

I usually mix my ro/do and salt mix in a 55g barrel. Put sand in, then rock that been cured in barrel, then water. And let it sit

I don't have any already cured rock? This is my first set up I don't have any fish or anything in the tank just the rock, sand, RO/DI water, and salt.

I think to speed up the process, you can buy a couple pieces of live rocks and add to the tank...maybe one bag of live sand for uder $20 to seed these dried rocks....
I would think when people say "cured rock" means that these rocks has been cured with no pests... I'm guessing what you're doing is to turn these dried rocks into live rocks....

Did you put anything in there to start the cycle? I have heard of feeding a little bit of fish food everyday to throwing in a piece of shrimp from your freezer. You could also add some live rock from you your LFS in there. My last tank I let it run with a combo of live rock, dead rock, and light for over a month before I added any inhabitants.

What you are doing is curing and cycling at the same time. Figure a good month if your lucky. After a couple days measure for nitrates and phosphates and if high, do a water change. Otherwise sit back and relax for a month.

Oh, and put in powerheads and a heater for the show to begin.

I have some sand in there that I got from the Craig's List guy that I am pretty sure is live sand. As far as putting fish in there not in any rush. Trying to make sure everything is set up right. I haven't put any thing in there to start the cycling process I may do that today or tomorrow.

Thanks!
