Anyone have a clue as to what this growth on my Candy Cane Coral may be (if anything)?

I have been noticing a stringy substance hanging from the coral - especially after feeding the tank - and was wondering if this is a Vermetid Snail or maybe just a normal secretion. I can't see if the strings go directly to the tube. This would be a recent hitchhiker when purchasing the frag, so not common throughout the DT.

Let me know, thanks!

+1 Vermitid Snail. Pull it out of the tank and scrape it off....

Of course if it appeared after you put it into the tank, then you have these little buggers in your system and they can take off, particularly in high nutrient tanks. If they get out of control, dont worry too much, go find some bumble bee snails. Believe it or not, they feast on Vermitid Snails. I bought two small snails and they have done a number on the vermitid population I had.

Didnt know that, the super glue technique has also worked well for me.

Thank you all. I am assuming that Coral Rx does not affect Verimitd Snails since this SOB lived through it. Going to remove him from the frag later tonight, and pray he hasn't spread.

If it is a new coral....which you dipped.... just pull it and put a dab of glue on it. You should be good to go. If you see more, then just deal with them as you come on them. I ignored them in my tank as they really didn't do much to my tank and then they took off. My laziness. The bumblebee snails then did the work.

And yes, Coral RX does not kill everything.... It does take care of most pests if used correctly... but not all.

Good Luck....
