Hello All I am new to this forum and really to the saltwater reef tank hobby. I started about 4 years ago and at the time was talked into getting the 24 gallon AquaPod made by Current (I was recently told they have been discontinued). I didn't do enough research the first go around and didn't have a bad experience but wasn't super successful either. Im looking for whatever advice you might have.

I got rid of everything (fish and shrimp) and I am starting fresh trying to do it right. In my 24 gal tank I have a live sand bed and a generous amount of Live rock (not sure exact poundage). Its not considered new since it has been up and cycling for a few years. Ph is 8.2, Ammonia and Nitrites are 0, Nitrates are at 5.0ppm, and the salinity is at 1.025 (maybe a little high). Partial water changes every two to three weeks. Not sure what my calcium level or alkalinity is. (Is that something I should be testing for on a regular basis as well?)

The tank itself is self contained and has a 28w dual compact florescent daylight and a 28w dual actinic light.

I recently added a peppermint shrimp and a skunk cleaner shrimp as well as 3 Astraea snails. Already in the tank I have several brownish mushrooms with blue markings on them that have multiplied several times however they seem to be losing their color (Im wondering if the light is too much.)

The Coralline algae has never really taken off. I have a few spots of it but it never exploded like I thought it would. Any suggestions?

Ok just seeing what people's thoughts are.

Thanks in advance for the advice and or help.

Welcome to R2R!! I would test the alk and calcium, especially if you want to keep corals. The reason that your mushrooms maybe losing color is due to the lighting. I would consider upgrading the lights if you want to keep more corals.

Thanks. I had been doing a lot of reading and was leaning towards that. Any suggestions for test methods? and in reference to the lighting how can I upgrade something that has been discontinued?
