Things are taking a quick down turn and getting more expensive than I need right now. I do not want to waste money and I do not want anything to happen to the tank. With that said, here is my current dilemma/issue.
1. Stock skimmer is too loud so I replaced it with an Eshopps Nano Skimmer last night. This Skimmer is going back. The magnet cannot hold it in place and it sinks below the water line. So, it is useless.
2. In my mad tanking skills, I bumped the MP10 Dry side off the tank. It hit the stand and then the floor while putting the new skimmer in. The whole thing died. I took it apart. The disk that makes the propeller spin was shattered and the motor will not spin the shaft. So, I had to order a new Dry Side yesterday ($114 shipped). I have no flow today. I am going to put the stock skimmer pump in the display side just to get water movement in it for 2 days.
With all of that being said, I need skimmer help. I am sort of limited on funds for a bit, but can make a sacrifice to get the right skimmer. However, if I can do something that is effective and quiet less expensive, I will go that route. Here are my ideas:
1. Go without a skimmer and do 2.5G water changes each week
2. Get a Maxi-jet pump, do the mesh mod, and use it on the stock skimmer body
3. Get a new skimmer, but which one?
New Skimmer Options:
Look for a used Tunze 9002 which is not much better than stock
Go with a Reef Octopus BH1000 (LFS has these at the same prices as the internet)
Tunze Nano Skim Slim (requires me removing the media basket)
Other options?
