Can I get enough current using just my 306 canister filter or do I need a power head for my 30 gal hex tank?

Depends on what kind of coral you plan to keep, but generally, you're going to need a powerhead.

You will probably want something in the 400ghp range. Unless you want something with control. An ecotech mp10 would be nice (pricey) or the knock off jeabo seem to be holding up.
