So i want to add some pop to my tank i have an old ati t5 fixture. I want to add a led for pop and a deeper actinic. My t 5 has always been to much light for my coral i only keep lps (never tryed sps not to attracted) does anyone have these lights and do you keep coral with them???

it has very low par on the deep end. the blue is beautiful. the timer is a bit wanky.
how deep is your tank? you'll probably wind up keeping 2 or 4 tubes. What color do you have?
Or buying 2 orbits.

I can look at the specs again in the AM

If you are after pop look into reefbrite. I just got two for my new build and lite them just to see and they look pretty good, but again they are not installed yet.

I had one for about 6 months it is a good light and the timer is good but is very low par on a tank over 12 inches. I switched over to t5 and like them better never tried corals with them but am glad I didn't I don't think it would do great, I have anemones they didn't get the light they needed. I would go t5 if I was in that price range, but led's if you could by a hydra 26, radion, or kessil. I've heard of led lights with the same lights as hydras and ecotech but not the expensive price wish I looked into them more before I bought.

I have a 75 g its about 19 inches deep. I think i got the blue plus x2 and 2 whites i forget the names of the tubes but i was thinking of running like 2 bulbs with the led fixture. But like to try to run it myself. But u dont ever hear anyone talk about them. Id be buying the 48 inch one

yea I have the 48. it doesnt penetrate well on the meter. youll need 2 or keep 2 t5 imo. and the white is kinda ugly. again IMO
most folks see the price and expect it to perform. it doesnt. the specs are WRONG. Im t5 and orbit in my 55g standard. i like it.
get one used. probably easy to find.:D

Or what about the artic 247 Chinese lights or whatever? I heard they good
depends on the price ya want. look at the reef breeders or SBreeflights. theres some name and some pride and you can talk to the owners and or flame them right here on this very forum for not much more $$$$
48" is a tough one for $300 and under. I do wish the orbit was better or knew of the next best thing.

I hear u on that. I dont need no high dollar fixture with my t5 i feel i could go low on led

If you do a orbit marine I would also run t5 I did that for a while but didn't like the look I have a 60g 2x2x2 square so that was also a problem with area. You could also do a custom t5 setup I've seen people post there custom setups and look good, also if you like the led shimmer there are the new E5 bulbs that are for t5 fixtures that are suppose to give off the shimmer and last 8 years but are $50 I'm probably going to try those once some of my bulbs go out. But $50 aren't that bad for 8 years and low energy cost. Regular t5 last a year, $10-$20, and cost more to run.

The orbit marine is more of a fish tank light.

The orbit marine pro was designed for growing corals. I think you will definitely need two pros if you want to replace your current lights - you could even use three.

Whatever you do, get a [HASHTAG]#lux[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#meter[/HASHTAG] to help you gauge how much light you are actually using. You can start with a free lux meter app, but a $15 handheld meter is going to do better.

Nice I actually bought a ocean revive artic t247 I believes that's the name) heard sum great things on it

I actually have on my grandmothers tank the smallest orbit marine u can get. And she's has a couple of zoas and a favia that's growing but there not to light demanding

I bought the orbit pro as my first light, I like the features, but it's not bright and I had poor growth deep. I use it for my top shelf area, which about 4-6" under the surface

its a good light for a shallow tank.

Right on.

I think you "could" do major coral with it if you maxed out the top of your tank with them and they were all on the included legs - right on top of the tank.

Just to flesh out the example, that means four or - more likely five - units on a standard 75g or 90g tank. ($950-$1200) I'm pretty certain you'd get good results.

I'm just not sure that would be the best way to get the job done considering the amount of money that would still need to be spent, and that the lights have to sit right on the tank - essentially covering it. What can and should be done are sometimes not the same thing. ;)

If you are the hypothetical person in our example who is considering growing corals seriously and you're thinking about 4+ orbit marines for your tank....you buy the Pro's instead:
  • use only 2 or 3 units ($970-$1500)
  • have the capability of suspending them off the tank with mostly good effects
Just my $0.02.

@tommyhere don't forget to post photos and take measurements with a [HASHTAG]#lux[/HASHTAG] [HASHTAG]#meter[/HASHTAG] :)
