Current USA Orbit Marine 40g

Hey guys! We got this light for free from Current (love those guys and their products) for our 40g breeder. It's the 36" light, just the regular Orbit.

This will be a mostly softy/lps tank. Will this be enough to get by with those, or should we get another to go with it? At 100% intensity on blues and whites, it looks like it gets good coverage, but just want to be sure as we get this smaller tank going. Thanks!

I would get a 2nd. Orbit lights are known to be particularly weak (they tend to fall off in their strength after 12 inches away from the fixture at 100% on every channel) so two of them are a must. The standard non pro light is only suitable for softies down to 12 inches, and lps down 6 inches from the fixture. Two of the fixtures would work, though you would only be able to keep low light corals below the midpoint of the tank.

I have a Current Orbit 48" strip over my 55g. Honestly, I am not sure if I am happy with it. While I do like the controllability it offers, I do not feel the intensity it provides is sufficient. I am fairly new to the reef world, so I don't really know how fast corals should grow. GSP seems to be growing well, but the majority of the rest seem stagnant to me. They aren't getting worse, but they don't seem to be getting better either.

I run full red, blue, and green and 15% white over my tank. I have a small collection of corals, GSP, Xenia, Zoas, Palys, and a maze brain coral...
