Cursed with ich...can a McCosker handle copper???

I feel your pain... I remember the days when I used to be able to buy fish from anywhere toss them in the tank and life was good. Disease is so prevalent these days in fish and coral that everything I buy is either from a premium retailer that does the work for me or I qt/treat everything near or to death and what survives earns the right to enter my display. It’s really kind of sad

He ate!!! He had a good dinner! Still some spots of course, but looking better. And the poor guy FREAKS out when I come near the tank - fearful of what i might do to him next after last night.
I keep telling him it was for his own good, but he doesn’t understand.

So - we have a long road ahead - copper is at 1.5 ish. Will be 2.0 tomorrow morning.

Here we go. Do we need to make a shirt for flash too??
 
Hopefully Flash makes it thru treatment. I've been wanting a mccoskers for a while. One thing I noticed from my bout with it last year, is fish hate light when afflicted with velvet. He could be trying to get away from the lights when you are viewing him.

Yes! I thought about this tonight! Going to leave the lights off for about two weeks. Let him rest and recover. I did not even go downstairs to try and feed him this morning, I will wait till this afternoon. Just let him get a good time of rest.

Someone had mentioned treating with anabiotic’s, or pretreating. Fish that go through that kind of treatment I did on him or print to infection. It was more of a preventative measure to keep them from getting any kind of bacterial infection. It may have been in the article and instructions for velvet treatment, now that I think about it.

However, awesome update, I was able to get a good look at his fins tonight as he came out to eat. He is still eating like a champ! I swear he eats 10 times his body weight in food per day. LOL not that I give him the chance to eat that much, but if I did he would. His front fans looked clear as glass tonight when I was watching him. So, that’s a really really good sign!

The biggest negative of QT is the stress on the fish. Becomes debatable if it is the parasite or the stress from QT that makes them stop eating. The fact he is eating well is a great sign. No harm is filling his little belly as long as ammonia and nitrates stay under control. The better he eats the stronger his immune system will be, the faster he will pull through.
 

Flash is doing awesome!!! Not seeing any spots and I think he is starting to forgive me for the torture he went through a couple nights ago.

Ate a bunch of black worms again this morning and some rods with mysis this afternoon. Even came out in the light for the 3 minutes I had it on for the video. I’m not positive the copper was at 2 exactly. It looked a little under, so I added 1 ml tonight.

I personally don't like to treat with antibiotics unless there is a clear reason to do so. Same goes for any medication, with the exception of praziquantel. Glad to hear the fish is doing better!

Good luck, glad to see him pulling through, my first and last wrasse didn't make it through copper, hope the one that arrives Tuesday does okay!

Good luck!! This is my 4th try at a McCosker and I am determined to get him through! This little guy has quite the personality too! He’s so fun!
