I am about to start the build on a stand for my 210 gallon aquarium. The one place i am struggling with is the height of the stand. I was initially thinking 36" but I have debated up going up to 42". 36 is better for maintenance but I like 42" better for viewing purposes.

What heights would people suggest?

I went with 38in tall on my 220. Tank sits in my living room and I came to terms with using a step ladder for maintenence. I wouldn't change it if it could do it over again. The view is incredible.

You want a stand that is high enough to give you good overhead height in your sump. Having a sump with a low head height is a pain. My stand has a height that is just enough but it does make things cramped. It is easy enough to get a small step ladder for tank access and being a bit high up makes for better viewing.

I had a 42" stand on my first tank (a 90). Because it's 24" tall I couldn't reach the bottom without a stepladder and it drove me crazy. But I never once questioned the clearance in my sump. I also never questioned whether I would do it again, because being able to see my tank without bending over is worth it 100%.

My tank is in my living room but my sump is in my basement so for me its about viewing and no so much room under for my sump. Im 6'4" tall so I have long arms so reaching deep into my tank isn't an issue as long as I have a step ladder.

My stand is 41" tall for my 180. Viewing the tank is awesome! Everything is eye level, and easy to look at.

Yes, maintenance is somewhat a pain, but I'm looking at the tank 90% more days than days I'm doing maintenance on it

I went with 37” because that’s the best viewing height for me when sitting which is what I do in my den. I would make it good for viewing standing or sitting. Tanks in between are frustrating to me.

I built my 220 stand. It's 42" floor to the top of the granite. Even though I have to use a ladder for most maintenance, I love it and wouldn't change the height if I had to do it again. I also love that I have no center brace and fully removable skin. It makes sump access super simple.
