Hello,

Looking to build a 30 gallon long innovative marine with a sump like some of the reefers out here. fell in love with the dimensions. my question is quite a few people are using the ESHOPP's Large overflow for the external overflow box ..

Question:

1. is the large too big? I love how it has a secondary drain compare to the medium size but not if there is such thing as too much flow or too big. Also the price difference is only 10 so would totally love to go with the bigger but need input!
2. any other overflow i should be looking at? looking to do a 30 gallon long from innovative marine, take out the baffle aio filter, add a overflow wiht a 20 gallon sump.

Also im trying to decide on a pump and deciding between the COR 15 and COR 20.. the cor 15 is rated for 1500 gph and the cor 20 is rated for up to 2000 GPH .. the footprint of both pump is the same and RIght now with the crazy sale going on they are the same price. again i'd like to go bigger if i can ..

question:

1. since this is adjustable you guys think it'd be okay to go with the COR 20 over the COR 15 ? and just adjust flow?
2. Again, is there such thing as too much flow? what is the recommended flow for a 30 gallon with a 20 gallon sump??

I’ll let others chime in on the overflow. As to the pump. That’s a BIG pump for your system. A 30g tank @ 10x turnover (even 10x is a lot) would need a 300gph pump. Let’s say you said total volume and ran a 30g sump. That’s 60g total x 10 is 600. You’re talking about running 3-4x that.

I’d be looking max 300-400gph. Now days I think most are ok with running closer to 5x turnover and supplementing with Powerheads for controlled flow.

Thanks for the reply. The COR 20 at about 5 head of plumbing its at 1600 GPH. Im having it split into 2 different returns and also being split into a media reactor a possibly a algae scrubber. Also it is adjustable so Im assuing it'll be okay. Thanks for the info tho.. I would like to be at about 10 times turnover.
