I've decided my 55g reef is growning and filling up fast and I've decided to get a 29g biocube with and AI Prime so I took off the lid but I don't want my naked clowns or helfrichi firefish to jump out of the tank. Any ideas better than the BRS diy kit? Anyone here make a custom top for sale?

I dont knwo about custom tops for a bio cube, but I went to homedepot and made my own custom top with window screen. Works great and cheap!

hmmm. let's see if I have any pictures handy...

So, it's not the best picture, but these are the tops are the ones from my 75 ( at the time of this picture) keeping my fish in the QT.

Being that it's rimless you may have to come up with another plan. But I thought it was worth showing you this kind. Gives you options :) good luck!

I just went to Home Depot. Bought one piece of the brown screen frame, the frame connectors for the 4 corners, the rubber to hold the mesh, and I had 1/4" bird netting laying around so I used that. Use a screen tool to fit the rubber in the frame while you keep the netting as tight as you can without breaking it. Never had anything jump out or any snails crawl out of the front either.

You can also make the front curve by shaving down the front corner pieces, making a couple small slits along the front rail and clamping it overnight to the tank. Mine came out almost perfect

For a very nice custom fit acrylic/mesh screen for a bio-cube, search for smiz at NanoReef. Didn't want to link to it here. I had him make one for my nano (link in my signature).

From personal experience, I would avoid both eggcrate and the bird netting mentioned above. The openings in each are too large (for nano fish anyway). I have lost fish using both. I would recommend only using the 1/4" mesh.

Bird netting can be layered to create smaller holes. That's what I did.

I used screen liner and supper glue to make a screen that goes around the outside of the hood( held up by a small piece of plastic tubing) and attaches to the back of the light cover to stop fish from jumping into the back.

To show you what Smiz is capable of, this is the top that he made for my custom nano.

That looks fantastic. I don't need anything at the moment, but I would love to have his info for future projects, if you don't mind sharing.

Smiz is a member here and you can send him a private message. Or, he is also at Nano Reef and has a large thread going there about the tops. It is not hard to find. I just don't want to link to it here.
