This probably isnt a popular aspect of the reef hobby, but I'm wondering if there are folks who have added decorations to their tank. Anything from your kids favorite toy, a tie in to movies you like, bath toys, etc. I'm curious what materials people have used and how they prepared them to be "reef safe".

What are you thinking of adding in your tank.

Haha I have one of the aquarium safe Sponge Bob decorations in my tank.

I have 2 projects in mind:

1- Trying to talk my daughters teachers into having a SW tank (pushing for clownfish/BTA centered tank) and the classroom is called the beehive. I thought it would be so cool if the kids could work on an art project that could get incorporated into the tank. I'm pretty sure glazed ceramics are fine, but was wondering it there are good enough sealing agents or epoxy coatings that you could use pretty much anything as long as it gets sealed completely.

2- My kids have gone to their local gymboree for years. The owner has a ciclid tank and I always thought it would be fun to make a themed decoration for him as a gift when the kids are done.

I am contemplating using painted glass in my seahorse tank to encourage them to change corals.

I read a thread where someone coated a wooden wheel in epoxy and used it in their tank. The main thing I would try to do is make sure that the paint/materials used do not contain heavy metals or materials that are hazardous to our tanks.
