So my goal is to try and build a fairly automated reef tank (Can see the build progress on my build thread) its a 90 gallon standard. I plan to create something similar to a reefberry pi but with a bit more accessories. I want to create the led lighting (As cheaply as possible) it should include moonlight and daylight. I plan to sync it to the controller (We can call it an Octo Pi sense my tank will be a mixed reef with an octopus) and have it create random weather patterns to include storms (Lightening simulations) and have a sunrise and sunset effect that matches time schedules through the year of the general location of where my corals and octopus inhabit in the wild. I plan to run 4 flowheads connected to the octo pi that will sync to the lights and if there is a storm then add some more wave action or if its a clear day lower waves. I will also add to the Octo pi to control
a diy water chiller/ a tank heater ran off a thermostat connected to the octo pi
an auto dosing system to dose my water
probes to continuously test the water and make corrections if needed
auto top off (with float to indicate top off time)
and a bluetooth waterproof 180 degree camera.

The application for the Octo pi will need to be phone, tablet and laptop accessible, allow me to make any manual adjustments needed and wifi capable.

Is there anything you think I'm missing? What else would you recommend? How should I go about doing this? What kind of lights would I need for a mixed reef tank (can't be too bright or my octo won't be too happy)? What kind of coral do you suggest (I like movement and colour) I'm thinking mostly softies with a couple LPS and SPS. Bad Idea? Any programmer help would be appreciated to. I think I can figure some of this out but maybe not all of it (I used to be an electrician and work on all kinds of tech for the Marine Corps, but programmer I am greatly lacking at.) Do you think this is a good idea? Would any of you like to help make one and then use the same idea for your tanks? And anything else y'all can think of!

Here is a thread I stumbled upon as I am looking at doing a DIY controller also.

I pretty much want all the features of the apex/profilux4 with out the price tag. Here is a link to @theatrus page for his controller board, and they also happen to have some amazing LED setups that are super affordable.

As far as synching everything and making it follow the weather patter that im not sure of but i know Current USA has their orbit marine IC pro system (I think it will run 4 wave pumps)

https://current-usa.com/loop-marine-bundle/

(I have it, swapping to Aquatic life t5 hybrid w/ kessil ap700 because the par numbers are not enough for what i want) but this with some BlueAcro Led's you could suppliment the light and still have the storm effects.

Check of the vids of macna this year as some AIO testing solutions were shown. @melev did a nice video on his macna trip that I enjoyed watching.

Happy Reefing!
