Hi all, I am doing my first custom overflow and drilling job on a 40 breeder I bought. The overflow is 8 inches wide, 2.5 inches front to back, and 6 inches deep. I plan on putting it on the back upper center of the 40b as it has slots on the sides and front for skimming. I should also mention this is an overflow with a back on it, so it will just be on the back of the tank attached by the inside of the bulkhead being inside it as well. The overflow came with a 1 inch bulkhead, but I need help deciding what kind of overflow plumbing method to go with, as I do not know what will fit in the space of this overflow and give me the quietest functioning possible. (Being my first time and all) please leave me suggestions on what type of overflow plumbing to do in this space! Thanks!

It's also worth noting that I can only go with a maximum of a 2 bulkhead overflow design, since even 3 1" bulkheads would not fit across the back unless they were touching basically

I was thinking maybe put a 2 inch strainer on one bulkhead at the bottom of the overflow, then an emergency overflow that comes out at 90 degrees and up from a second bulkhead and will trickle water to set the water level so I don't have a splash effect in the overflow? I assume I would put a valve of some sort on the strainer one to tune the outflow so it trickles barely down the higher emergency flow?

I plan on using a rio+ 2500 pump, at a 3.5-4ft head difference. So it will probably be pushing 525 gph into the tank.
