I have been on about a 8 year break from the hobby, mostly because I started a family and gave my children the proper attention they deserve. Not to mention money was pretty tight when have 4 kids in around 8 years. My family is very unique in the fact that we all stay home all day long. My wife, bless her heart, has taken the responsibility to home school our four children. She loves it! I work from home giving technical demonstrations out of my home office. Although I am in my office 8-10 hours a day, I do love what I do.
With that said, my sons are very interested in science and after going to the Monterrey Bay aquarium, I felt like I was in heaven there. I knew I wanted to dive back into the hobby.
I wanted something of a quick start, so I began looking at different options, requested quotes from many different companies, such as Reef Savvy. I felt i got great prices, but then shipping was killer in my opinion.
I wanted a long tank i was leaning towards a standard 120 tank until visiting a local pet store, they had a small Red Sea REEFER, and so I began to investigate. I felt like it was a lot of value for the money, plus my local store let me purchase the large REEFER 450, in a few different payments. This allowed me to get what i wanted without hurting the bank all at once and getting Spousal Aggro.
I had seen many custom builds over the 8 years I was not actively IN the hobby I would still check in on forums and favorite websites.
So although I purchased a "canned" system I have some ideas that I would like to implement to help create a custom set up.
