Hey guys,
So after my ballast blew on 2 of the 6 bulbs (T5s) under the hood I decided to take off the hood and replace with 2 Hydra HD 26s ...Unfortunately after you take off the hood on the RSM your left with a overhang/ledge on the rear of the tank which was terribly ugly!
Many ideas for the tank came to mind -
1. Filter cover, InTank actually makes one but for the newer RSM 130 so it would have been short but the actual cover would have been perfect bc its for that purpose (was thinking of buying 2 and modding them to work)-
2. Find the discontinued RSM250 filter cover (they did make one for this purpose i found out) but I couldnt find it anywhere, even emailed the company which has none left collecting dust ....
3. Chop the ledge off literally, cut it off and see how it looks -
So in the end i chose option 3 above and had a great friend of mine who owns a LFS come and jigsaw the ledge right off and wow what a difference - tank looks sleek and normal again and the Hydras actually fit better to the tank and not loosely clipped to the ledge plastic -
The jigsaw did a great job - funny thing was as we sawed across, the plastic being so thick would melt and fuse back together so if you didn't get it off itd be like you never even cut it - we also sanded the results afterwards to smooth it out. I thnk the tank looks great now! Highly recommend this mod if you own a RSM250 - wasn't that bad either maybe 30 mins in total and no fear of cutting through thick plastic - just make sure you have a good blade on the jigsaw!
