Getting a 72" stand made and I want to put a wall and side door in for my electrical/cords. How much space do you think I should allocate? I'm going to be adding in Apex controllers later on so I don't have the items to properly gage how much room I need? Will one foot do? Or could I get by with less?

I've seen some people use as little as 4" but claim it was really tight. I would think at 12" you would have more then enough space and could probably get away with as little as 8"

5-6 inches in front of a false wall to attach the control units too and at least 6 inches or so behind the false wall for the rats nest of wires.

The aquarium will be against a wall so I was thinking of the rat's nest of wires just being behind the aquarium!

I have to agree with the others. If you can afford leaving 12" you'll be happy you did. I built a box at only 8" and wish like heck it was larger. It's amazing how quickly it will fill up.

Here's what I did. Works great for me. 14 x 20 x 4 (deep).
