I’ve been tossing the idea either building my own tank or having one built. I did the major research and cost and yes it is way cheaper. However I contacted a local builder and not to take the cost of a build from any builder in the industry because of the shipping cost but this quote I got for a custom a 60x30x24 was $3250 in starfire glass no shipping. Can someone tell me if this normal.

I had the same dimensions built in regular glass with a single center overflow for about $2500 3 years ago.

Seriously depends on the builder, for the same tank you will find quotes from $2750 all the way up to probably $5500 for a tank your size.

For reference, my 60" x 30" x 17" custom peninsula with one piece starphire eurobracing and 3 sided starphire glass was $2400.

I'm willing to bet that if your ordering a rimless tank that is where the bulk of your cost is at, 3/4" starphire glass is super expensive right now.

We talking rimless? Because price jumps BIG time for the glass thickness.

I have a 60x36x24. All 1/2” glass. 3-side starfire. Double bottom panel and top eurobracing. ABS layer, and black vinyl back. Predrilled with 4 holes(2 overflow, 2 returns). *I provided my own overflow* Acrylic seam protection. Crated and shipped from Washington state to Ohio, I paid $2250. Ordered on 6/7/18.

I have now heard that price is over $3k+ for the same tank! This a tough pill to swallow when I hear this.

Sticker shock is a thing. I toyed with the idea of building a tank myself a year ago but ultimately decided to go with a builder. I trust myself to silicone together 5 pieces of glass, but there's a certain finesse in building a tank properly, and reputable builders know their reputation is at stake each time a crate leaves the shop.

3 side starfire? What overflow config? Bracing type?
Sorry, forgot to state regular glass. Its a Planet Ocean, well built. The overflow is a single in the center with 2 return nozzles.

No it is for a euro braced tank. 1/2” glass.

I e built tanks before. My biggest was 120. But this is bigger I was merely comparing vs doubt.

I priced out a 60x 32x 24tall with single overflow and a single sheet euro braced top drilled for a closed loop with 2 panels starfire. Was about 3500$

Hey pal you are relatively close to me. Where did you go to for your tank.

Ill have to check them out.. I dont plan on upgrading for about a year and half maybe 2. But that's the size I want. I love the deep dimension tanks. Make such a huge difference in the way it looks. And I plan on doing a raise reef design, so it wont be a wall of rock.

That was sort of my plan. I plan on taking a ride to coast to coast to check them out since they are local.
