One of my small torch colonies has 2 dead heads that never grew out and had turned to skeletons. Is it better to leave the skeleton or cut it off in hopes of new heads growing?

Thanks.

If there's no tissue left, it's your call.

The skeletons are fairly fragile.

How would you cut it? What instrument would you use? [emoji846]
Also interested... never cut any sort of corals or anything. Always try to keep them underwater... I stress myself out whenever I take them out to move to the other side of my tank

I think the logistics of doing the cutting is on a case by case basis, but in my small colony there's room to trim off the old skeleton. I was just curious if it promotes healthy growth to prune the old skeleton rather than just leaving it.

Not like trimming trees does, where removing the old dead branches can help the plant develop healthy new growth.

It may be helpful if the dead skeleton provides a platform for algae to grow which can irritate the living coral, but generally, this isn't a big problem with torch / lps corals.

you know I have been wondering the same for 6 months. I had a torch fall over and lost 2-3 heads I left the skeleton alone its been fine but often think about cutting if nothing else to stop reminding me about the stupid loss...

I can certainly understand that.

I crushed a Frogspawn holding it too tight with my fingertips. Had no clue that was even possible!

Just be careful with it.

I'm guessing bandsaw?
Last thing I would use my tile nippers on.
