I was working on my tank without the lid and I have limpets that tend to hang around the water line. One of them moved up over the lip and I decided to try using my thumb to push him off (bad idea). Not thinking about it, I had my pointer finger on the other side and pushed with my thumb. It came loose after using some force and it's shell sliced right into my pointer finger. The cut is about half an inch and looks fairly deep. I instantly washed it really well and used a lot of hydrogen peroxide. It did bleed a lot so I'm hoping that helped flush some bacteria out of it. Any chance of this getting infected or anything worse with all the stuff in our tanks ;Nailbiting.

Not usually. Just disinfect the area and use some neosporin or so.

I get cut from time to time too but if it starts to swell or pus, seek some medical attention.

That's reassuring! I normally wear arm length gloves, but I was doing a water change and didn't plan to put my hand in the water. Learned my lesson with limpets lol. Their suction to the glass is crazy strong.

I have a ton of limpets in my system too, I just move much slower when working in and around the tank. Avoids a lot of cuts because the salt water stings open wounds and scratches quite a bit ;)

Deep puncture wounds can lead to serious life threatening infections. Contact an attorney to see if you have a product liability case against the businesses that manufactured and sold you the defective tank without a limpet warning label.
Talk with your doctor about digital amputation to remove any infection threat from limpet punctured dermis. Recovery will take weeks but you will be able to enjoy more tank time.
Why settle for a bandaid when you deserve an upgrade?

hope this inspires you to laughter. Salt wounds from shells and spines are not fun!

I could use a tank upgrade. You might be onto something here :D.

I’ve stuck my hands into the tank only to discover, due to stinging and burning, that I had a small cut somewhere that I wasn’t aware of before. The worst thing that’s ever happened was some extended burning and reddening of the area, but I sprayed it well with Bactine and it got better overnight.

That being said, our tanks can have Vibrio and other marine bacteria that is known for causing severe infection. I wouldn’t worry too much, just clean it well (sounds like you did) and see a doctor if it starts to get red and swollen.
