Cutting bulkhead?

I have a abs bulkhead thats too long, can i cut it? Any issue with nut getting on thread? Need a low profile bulkhead to plumb pump in sump. Not sure who desighn sumps with bulkhead for plumbing butalmost impossible to utilize for bulkhead above pump

Leave the nut on then cut the bulkhead short so in case if you do mess up the threads, nut is on the threads and on it's way off it might straighten the bent threads back. Just a thought.
Or you can buy a shorter one online or at local hardware store or pool or pond supplies.
