Cutting Coral Base - Colony

Is it possible to cut-off the base of a coral colony? This is a Bonsai coral colony that was mounted to a large plug that can grown.

Not easily. First thing I'd try is just chipping away at it with a pair of bone cutters. It doesn't look like you have much room to work with but you might consider glass cutting hacksaw blades.
