I recently became the owner of a roughly 560 gallon acrylic tank measuring 120” long, 30” wide and 36” tall.

The tank is going to be awesome... but the acrylic is only 1” thick. For those dimensions it should be 1.5” according to my calculator. The tank was up and running for a few years at a pet store and never had issues... but the back bottom seam looks pretty bad.

All other seems looks perfect. Does this look like typical crazing for older acrylic or is this due to the stress of undersized acrylic?

Now assuming that I need to shorten the tank to something like 29” then I’m looking at cutting the bottom of the tank off to get rid of that bad seam.

What’s the best way to actually cut this tank down? Router? Saw? I need a perfectly straight cut that’s smooth... but this tank is huge.

Not a router... though you might be able to use a router with trim but if needed after you saw it.

I’d clamp guides very carefully and use a circular saw with a really new, high teeth per inch blade....

This is going to be interesting. Following

So I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth just yet, I promise. I just bought my first house a couple weeks ago and moved my 180g over finally. It’s been a very busy month.

I’ve been dragging my feet on moving the 10’ tank over since I need a group of people to help move the monster... and after moving that dang 180 I need a long break. Lol you have to wait a little bit before asking tank buddies to move ANOTHER tank that’s even bigger.

In the meantime I started my coral propagation system/lagoon. The stand is just starting to take shape:

I ordered 1/2” acrylic so it will be a rimless 96x48x13 tank. The stand is 30” tall for a nice top down look, and will be the same height as the 10’ tank so it look good being in the same room.

If anyone is interested I’ll post pics of the build process. [emoji4]

any progress ?
