Acetone will also attack some plastics, so depending on the material of the tank trim, this may not go well.

I wasn't planning on it. i've heard that the trim gets destroyed during taking apart the tank anyway.

it is nail polish remover but if you go to an automotive store you can buy a gallon of it cheap and it will be much stronger. clearly do not use on any painted surface you care about.
