Just wondering if anyone has tried cutting live rock and by that I mean cutting it in slices to make flat surfaces. I'm In the planning stage for my next tank build and like the Marco flat rock to build structures but really want to use live gulf rock. Might not be practical though, cause the salt would probably ruin the saw.

Angle grinder with diamond disc for cutting tiles, cheramics....

Little messy, but work great.....

Watch your fingers ;)

Either a large brick saw, angle grinder, or reciprocating saw with a masonry blade can all do it.

Personally my go to would be to cut into it and bottom the wheel of the angle grinder around your line, then cut out any remainder with the recip.

A lot of live rock is very easy to cut which also means it's easy to break. Of you're cutting shelves, make sure they are thick enough to not break. That's the biggest issue I've had.

Hint.. 1" is way too thin and snaps easily.

Only trouble with angle grinder is vibration, wich can cause rock to crack or chip on edges, so steady hand is needed....

I cut some Base Rock using a Hack Saw. I soaked it well in RO/DI Water, started with a 32 Blade, Rock Resting on an old towel. Scored and switched to a 24 Blade. After I had the cuts made, I found my Hacksaw Blade for custom cuts in Tile, LOL. That blade looks like a steel cable with grit on it. This was very low mess, and easily made cuts.
