No need to. You can use one of these over the flex cable. There is probably a similar sheath in the dental world.


I was going to say, I've had good luck with an electric toothbrush underwater for GHA removal. Plastic baggie, bunch of rubber bands, works great!

Home Depot has a huge pair of slip joint pliers for like $20. Like up to 5-6" gap between the jaws huge.

I wonder if you could get enough leverage with them to crush the section loose. Maybe even take a grinder to them to get makeshift giant bone cutters.

Now just melt a jigsaw blade into it with a Bic lighter, and OP is in business. The ol' SHIV-O-MATIC 3000. Great for in tank rock work and rec yard snitches.
 
Update.
Managed to take a few bites along the edge but looking at older images from the scaping, I could see the left side was a bigger thicker piece of rock.
I did manage to get 90% of the top so pretty pleased with all the non shaded room it resulted in:
