Hi All,

we've been battling cyano the past few weeks, red, I'm syphoning out as much as I can and then putting in fresh salt water. Did it about 5 days ago now done it just now again.

The past week we've seen the skin on our branching hammer is receding upwards from the bottom of the stem (we've had this for a year and it's grown from 1 polyp? mouth) to 6 and 2 tiny new branches coming off it and a favite is now showing a lot skeleton around the edges. Again had it about a year.

Acan and Mushrooms so far appear totally fine. The Hammer is above to the left of the Favite...could there be warfare?

I tested all params that I have tests for (Salifert) just now...

Phosphates I have trouble with telling the colour/reading but they are somewhere between 0.03 and 0.1 (I think)
Nitrates are 0
Calc is 465 (Higher than normally 440) this is due to adding purple helix I believe.
Alk is 6.5 (This concerns me)
PH 7.8

We've always had a bit of an issue with alk being consumed in this tank quite fast but the corals have always been very well so I'm not sure what's just happened (Purple Helix?)

Everything is left well alone, no lighting has been changed.

There's no brown jelly.

Should I just do some 20/25% water changes over the next few days to get the Alk and PH back up.

We don't dose anything....

Raise your nitrates. If you are really worried, dose chemiclean too. It's easy.

As for the favoa and hammer, they will sting eachother and my bet is on the hammer winning.

I waited 6 months to use Chemiclean and wish I hadn't. I tried every natural remedy but nothing did the trick. Chemiclean had the cyano gone in less than 48 hours and I had no losses at all. It was pretty amazing.

Also a Chemiclean fan. That stuff is amazing.
