My question is does anyone know exactly what causes Cyano? I have a bloom going on right now and have read many different causes: high nutrients, too low nutrients, calcium/alk off, salinity, etc. Is there actually any scientific evidence of what causes it and not just anecdotal causes? Seems a lot of discussions about it but nothing concrete about causes.

Any other articles or videos or anything that goes into what actually causes cyano?

My vote is excessive nitrate production within a tanks biological filter, particularly young tanks but not enough nitrate fixation within the tank.

Young tanks have areas without mature bacteria colonies coating them and this leaves cyano without competitors on their level. Older tanks can pop up cyano, but tends to confine to that area.

Been years since I've had an outbreak but if they get thick and wont go away Maracyn does the trick.
