I took a few different steps to stop my cyano problem
cut back on feeding schedule
cut back lighting schedule
added phosguard to the sump inlet
added one dose of start zyme to help bacteria growth
I have let the macro algae grow out a little more than I normally would also

i started these things about a week ago. So far it has improved quite a bit but it still comes back when the lights have been on for awhile. I am trying to avoid any chemical dosing if I can help it. But, there is a LFS that has chemiclean available If I have to resort to that. My skimmer is working well and all other all paramaeters are in line. I am aware that nitrates and phospates could be getting sucked up by the cyano giving me a false reading. Anything else I should try, or just keep doing what the same things and give it a little longer?

im going through this same problem, just made a post about it not that long ago. did the same things as you listed, only i left my lights out for 3 days, only turning them on to feed. i have no corals in the tank now, only fish, so that was no big deal for me. doing 2 small 10% water changes a week also. the problem is not gone but is MUCH better and seems to be going away.

Sounds like you're on the right track!! If you decide to try the lights out ..... I've done it before with a mixed reef - lps, sps, anemone - with no problems at all.
