Hi all!!

I’m quite new to the Saltwater Hobby, years of freshwater but I’ve started my first salt tank. It’s a 2 gallon pico, which I’ve had as good of results as I could ask for. Stable parameters for the first 4 weeks and a seemingly cycled tank as of the past few days. I’ve noticed growth of red spots on my live rock I bought from my LFS in an established tank. It seems too early for corraline, so I was thinking cyano. It doesn’t blow off with a turkey baster, and only comes off by scraping it. Any thoughts on what it is? It’s bright red and flakes off.

Thanks y’all!

It looks the same color as one of the coralline algae in my tank. It's kind of splotchy and mine grows in really well defined circular spots. Let's see if I can get a picture.

Mine is definitely coralline.

That’s exactly how mine looks. Color and texture, I’m glad to see that it’s not cyano. I’m getting closer to corals, yay!
