I recently had a Cyano outbreak. It was to the point where I would brush it off the rocks, do a water change (5 gallons changed on a 40 gallon tank), and within days it would be back worse than before.

I tried Red Slime Stain Remover the two times within 48 hours that it directed. It did nothing.

I have had the tank 1 year almost to the day when this happened. Lighting and feeding schedule has been consistent as well as pretty close to weekly water changes.

I was feeding a little less than normal (one time per day as opposed to the two times I normally do) with no real change. I was reading a thread on here and turned off all white light and 99% of the Cyano was gone within 2-3 days.

What does this signal is happening in the tank? Can I just control this by reducing the amount of white light or am I opening myself up to additional outbreaks or problems by trying to manage the Cyano via the white light intensity?
