For about 4 weeks I was away on TDY and unable to do my standard tank maintenance. This lead to (I believe) a pretty bad outbreak of red cyano. After over a month of battling for over a month, I can finally see the light is at the end of the tunnel. After my last water change Monday little bit is still surfacing. The sand sitting beneath the surface was literally red and its now almost gone. My corals, rock and sand all look so much better too!

If you're battling this particular pest don't worry you can do it! I had it growing on my rock work, sandbed and even had some of my GSP polyps killed off from being covered. But regular water changes, sand siphoning, getting a diverse clean-up crew and dosing MicrobactrClean daily (can't say this one was a huge factor but started dosing it at the same time the cyano was bad) really do make a difference.

Don't freak out and you'll get through it! I woke up this morning and the first thing my GF said was how great the tank looked (she watched the cyano takeover first hand). It's amazing how big a difference maintaining a regular, consistent cleaning/dosing schedule makes!

I always had a cyano issues somewhere(usually sandbed). When I started dosing large amounts of live phytoplankton, it all went away.
You know I should have definitely added that about two weeks ago I also started dosing phyoplankton daily! Also had zero phosphates and got that up into the appropriate range too. It's also crazy to me how many small things can lead to big changes (good and bad!).

I have the green version. wish me luck!
I honestly think I barely avoided the blue/green version (though I can't verify this for sure, could have just been algae lol). As the red dissipated it was replaced by a similar looking green-ish type on the rocks. However after twice weekly rock scrubbing and continuing my water changes (about 20% weekly) it's totally gone. Would imagine the same will happen for you!
