Okay so for the past month the cyano has been going crazy in my tank. And no it's not because I don't have enough flow in my tank. I've made sure of that and it still grew. I also did water changes every week for a month and still nothing changed. What would be my next step to take in trying to get rid of this junk? I think I've seen people recommended chemi clean but I forget.

Use a tooth brush to get it off rocks. Then water change removing all u can see and get to 10-15% shall do. I added Chemi pure elite, phosphate pad remover, and this new stuff called Pristine which cured my tank from it. Alone with like 5 trophy snails. Total cost was like 35 bucks.

Agreed, definitely add a phosphate remover and keep up with water changes. Another good way is to blast it off of rocks with a turkey baster. Cyano loves "gunk" too so getting the crap out of the top of your sand bed can help starve it out.

I would suck every bit of that out with a hose when I did a water change. Then up the flow, even if you think you have enough

Okay thanks guys. I'll try the chemi clean and phosphate remover when I get home.

Be very careful with chemiclean. There was a thread around 1 month ago of a guy loosing fish using this.

Most of the time things like losing fish or tank crash is due to not following instructions. Make sure to lightly rinse your chemipure. Basically fill a large cup up with R.O water and pour it on the chemipure should do.

I had some difficult time with cyano. I increased the flow trying to solve the problem, but it was the excessive nutrients in the system. I switched from filter floss to filter socks and had a removed all cyano in 3 weeks.

I had cyano. Green in the DT and red in the sump. I increased flow, water changes 2 times a week for 6 weeks, siphoning gravel, physically taking out clumps of sand with cyano, reducing feeding some, and last replacing old t5s and changing my sump light to full spectrum led.

I also know guys who dosed good bacteria. Which is what I believe changing the light does, it allows good bacteria and algae to grow and out compete for the nutrients.

I've used Chemiclean twice before and never had issues except for teh skimmer. You will need to babysit it for an hour while it gets rid of the chemicals in the water column. If your lucky to have a newer skimmer it may have a drain and you can empty it into a 5 gal bucket without having to constantly dump it manually.

Blue life cyano rx. I used that in my tank with fish and corals and it took care of it in a matter of a few days with no ill affects other than my skimmer going crazy for a bit. Then just run fresh carbon and things were back to normal.
