See photo below. I will siphon it off the rock and then it appears again a few days later. Nitrates are low according to Red Sea kit but according to my Hanna Checker phosphorus is at 11.

Are you running and gfo in an rector .. that Will help with po4 .. what is Your nitrate at ? Some more info over Your tank wil help .. how old , size , what youve got in there .

11 ppb is .011 ppm. I wouldn't run any GFO and this stuff you have could be confused with diatoms.

How old is the tank?
Is it possible to get a clearer picture? As in, press the camera against the glass so no shaking with the blues set at a minimum and pumps turned off?

I can get a clearer picture when i get home. The tank has been up for around 4 months. Nitrate is showing around 2 on the Red Sea test kit. I don’t have GFO but did just start an algae reactor last weekend with some chaeto.

How many snails do have in there?
Is there more of this in the tank?

And welcome to the ugly phase.

I have a turbo nail a bunch of baby nessarius, and maybe 5 Ceriths. There is some more lower in the tank on the rocks, but this is the area with the most.

I'd add more , and grab a diversity. If you can find smaller turbos get a couple extra. Stops em from knocking stuff over. For a couple years anyway
And grab a toothbrush and do some water changes.

Will do. The good thing is a turkey baster has worked well getting it off the rocks.

Best tool ever.
So there's not much hairy stuff? That'll catch a lot of funk.

If you can, we'd love to see the rest of it.

What size tank is this?
What's the amount of flow through the tank?
Livestock?
What do you feed and how often?

Below is a FTS. I have two clowns, a cardinal, a blenny, and a diamond goby. Along with a carpet nem and a few other corals. I usually feed a 1 cm square of either PE mysis or reef frenzy Nano. This is a reefer e-260 using the built in pumps.

My tank looked like this with gha back in July at 7 months old. I had set up my tank with LR that came with it. I’m pretty sure they were leaching phosphates. I’d scrub it off, do wc’s, cut down lighting/feeding and it wasn’t really helping. So I know it’s cheating but I pulled out a few rocks and soaked them in peroxide. Then I dosed about 2ml per gal everyday for a month (worked up from 1ml/gal after fish, shrimp and corals looked fine) . After that I set up a fuge with chaeto. It did wonders for my tank, the rock was 95% clear and I stopped having to clean the glass everyday. It’s been almost 2 months since the last dose and everything has stayed manageable. Just my expierence, thought I’d share it.

Since my tank has a sump in the back I set up an algae reactor.
