Currently having this outbreak. As the title says not sure what it is. I don't have microscope not sure how to test on which one i have. The tank is IM Laggon 25 about 5 months old. Build with dry rock, live sand. All stock came from my old 5 gallon tank which I had not problem with.

Equipment being use are:

The return pump that the tank came with.

One filter sock on one side and a caddy with with filter floss, chemi pure elite and fluval ceramic rings on the other.

2 hydor koralia on opposite ends (240, 425)

Reef glass protein skimmer (currently off for a week)

AI prime ( on for 10 hrs)

Current parameters
Alk 7.7
Cal 420
Phos 0 (salifert kit and api kit)
Nitrate 25
Mag 1260
Ph 8.0

To give more info, this out break sems to get worse during the day. As time passes more stringy like algea appear and cover both rock and sand. Sometimes corals. However, as the lights go down they seem to clear out. I can turkey baste them out of the rocks and the tanks get more cleaner. Then a few microbubbles appear. Then starts all over again as soon as the lights go on. I haven't really done anything because I don't know what it is and so how to treat. Also during some time I see red patches like cyano but most of the time everything is brown. Should also mention all the hermit and snails are all accounted for have not lost anything yet. Any advice welcome. Been in the hobby for about a year. Thanks you all.

Can anyone advice what should I do first? Raise phosphate, get uv should I remove chemi pure elite? How can I test to see what I'm dealing with.

What did you find out with this outbreak? I’m having a similar outbreak in my tank.

Nitrate at 25 might try lowering that first. Try maybe 20% water changes on alternate days.

I believe I have both (pics look like mine). Cyano comes and goes, I just focus on keeping steady parameters, use GFO to keep PO4 down (at or below 0.08). I scrub the rocks every week and keep my flow mixed to stir things up.

there is a good dino thread.

In the end, I took a chance and dosed hydrogen peroxide, that turned out to be the most effective and knocked that dinos back to an acceptable and diminishing level. One of my acros got very upset, turned brown and tips bleach so I am nursing it back. Risky move, but for me it was huge progress and while I am not happy about the acro, in the long run it was worth it.
