So I just got home from a 12 day trip to Disneyland. While I was away I had someone feeding the fish and when I left the tank was clear. Well just got home to this. This is my first tank and it has been running since the beginning of August. What should I do about all the growth? I will be checking all the parameters tomorrow but all the livestock is fine. Also what are the green looking plant growth on the rocks? I honestly think this was caused by overfeeding. I think I'll start with vacuuming the sand and blowing the rocks off with a pump. Also kill the lights for a few days and cut back feeding to every other day. But definitely checking all parameters in the morning.

That is a macro algae called gracilaria and not cyano

Check your N03 and P04 levels, make certain they aren’t zero. Cyano is a form of life, part of the new tank cycle.

You do realize that your tank is going to go through various ugly stages throughout most of the first year right? Your tank has only been running like 2 months now so it's probably just one of the ugly phases starting. Weekly water changes and a diverse cleaner crew help.
