I have a cyano bloom in both my tanks. I vacuum it out but it seems to return very quickly. Nitrate is zero in my 75 gallon tank and 1-2 ppm in my 150. Phosphate runs between 0.015 to 0.030 in both tanks. These levels have been stable for months. I also run biopellets in both tanks.

I started using Dr. Tim's Waste-Away a few weeks ago and it hasn't had any effect so far. It may have gotten worse.

In the past when I had such a bloom, it has always been small and went away within a short period. Any experience with this product or any other advice to offer?

It is feeding off the nitrates and phosphates enough to keep your tests low. run teh lights off for a day or two and then see what they read.

I would try adding some Microbacter 7 or Microbe Lift 'special blend'. Ive had better success with the special blend product personally. You can get the special blend at any Petco.

Sluicebox I was getting Cyano with undetectable nitrate and 0.02 ppm Phosphate. I tried everything everyone said and nothing worked. Then I remembered that I never had Cyano before I started running Ecobak. IMO the dust (particually the carbon) from the Ecobak was the fuel source for the Cyano growth. I had to treat the cyano with chemiclean, I did a large waterchange, and have since run the biopellet exhaust basically right into the skimmer. The Cyano basically has not returned since.

I just ran into this problem as well. Turns out my refractometer was way off and my salinity was super low. This caused a cyano bloom in my tank. There are so many factors it will be hard to nail down exactly what it is without trial and error.

What type of water are you using? What test kits are you using? What is the flow like in your tank? How old/new are your lights? Are you over feeding? Are you dosing anything?

Wouldn't MB7 make it worse? Since it's a bottle of nutrients? I'm a noob correct me if I'm wrong.
