Cyano starting to get worse!

Ok guys I am starting to get frustrated:frusty: I have been fighting this for a couple months now and it seems to only be getting worse. N03 is less than 5 and P04 is .03 or less always ( Salifert). I have stepped up water changes, only feed every 2-3 days and cut back on lighting.

Is it possible that cleaning my sand bed every water change is doing it? This has been my normal routine for two years. It is a reef floor special and only about 1-2" deep. I use RO water but the TDS has been at 8ish lately.

Any help would be awesome

I have always been told it's flow.. Look for dead spots on you rocks and sand.. Adjust the power heads so it cover the dead areas. The Cyano can be using the NO3 and P04 so they may not be true reading..

What about the chalice and acans etc on the sand that don't like much flow? I have a wp40 and an 1250 aqueon and its a 75g.

Do 10% water change a week and us RO/DI water in your mix. Should get better over a couple weeks. Also could try low dose carbon dosing like vitamin c. There is a really good thread on here from pufferpunk about vitamin c dosing. It makes the bacteria in your tank use up the nutrients.
I do both and never get it anymore.

I will have to read more on the vitamin c dosing. I can't use RO/DI because I get it from my LFS. I have nowhere to install a system in my house without putting buckets in the kitchen and "SHE" would not allow me to do that at all lol.

What kind of lights do you have. If they are t5 and your bulbs are a year old or older that would most likely b your problem.

I had a cyano algae for a few months. Was coating everything killing my lps. I used phosphate rx, rowaphos to get my phosphates down. It really went away after I started up biopellets again. Also, vacuumed my sand to get rid of all that junk that was stuck in there. Was a pain in the butt, but finally almost gone and I had it pretty bad too.

I also run gfo and have been for 5 months. My lights are a diy setup of 110 blue and white Cree LEDs. Its a rapid led build. Sps and lps are doing great with good color.

Keep blowing off that spot. If it continues, go lights out for 3 days.

Cyno Rx. It's reef safe and works great. Get it at your LFS, start it first thing when your lights come on. Cut off your skimmer and power head for 2 full days cut back your lights a tad bit. Then after your done do a 25% water change use carbon and turn skimmer back on!

Not exactly a cure in all cases but it's none the less helpful that Halloween hermit crabs like to eat cyano, and they're like $12 from liveaquaria.com plus shipping :/ ...

Chemiclean will eliminate cyano from your tank like forever, not to advertise but it really works well.

Have you ever tested it? When I first started, I bought like 40g from my local grocery...at their fancy water station. It tested a TDS of 300!

I had it in my biocube for a quite bit of time and didnt no what to do so i just left it be. Until one day i said thats it, i got red slime remover then i did water changes. Havnt had it come back since. red slime remover+waterchanges+less feeding= no red!

Are you using selcon or any other supplement? What are your phosphate levels at? Any bio pellets?
