Having a cyano outbreak. Tank is fairly new, parameters look good to me. Nitrate-5, phosphate .03, alk 7-8, calcium 450 what else should I look for? Plan to cut lights back and do a 30 gallon water change. 90 gallon with 30 gallon sump.

I would just keep up your good husbandry and give it some time. Maybe try to siphon out the cyano when you do water changes.

Cyano is not always a sign of bad parameters. I have a ton of green cyano right now in my tank and my parameters are spot on. The problem is that I have a new sand bed and some new rock.

Cyano is a bacteria. You can do all the right things with flow, and water changes and still have cyano in the beginning months of a setup no matter what. I have found that by dosing micro-bacter 7 or other denitrifying bacterias will help fight it off.

Microbacter 7 does a good job of removing Cyano. cleared it up out of my 72

+1. I'm dosing dr tims waste away and have used mb7 as well to rid of cyano

Ok thanks guys. I thought it must be new tank syndrome since everything looks good with my testing. I put off a water change to figure my tank alk and calcium usage so I can get on track with dosing. My phosphate will creep up around .08 when sock filter gets dirty but will drop right after a change. I am now changing every 2 days. I feed the tank pretty heavy for the anthias. I plan a water change this week so will remove all that I can. Also plan to add algae scrubber in the near future if phosphate start going up but if it stays in check I am just going to leave it all natural. Less maintenance is my goal and to let the tank do its thing. Ran the biopellets on the 40 and did not like the result I had with them. Did much better vodka dosing it. I went from having high nitrate and low phosphate to high phosphate and very low nitrate.

LOL. Lindsey you will get there just as I will. Im going to try the Dr tim approach. Hopefully good will win over evil

I'm in the cyano boat too! Started when my Neon Damsel decided to tear up my 3yr old SB :( 4 25% WC in two weeks, yup it's still there.
Anyone know the shelf life on the MB7? I've had a new unopened bottle in my fridge for over a year?

I would just buy a new one.

I just tell myself cyano is a really nice and colorful decorative bacteria and it makes it a lot easier to deal with until it goes away.

Mine is an amazing bright green color, although I'm not convinced its actually cyano...but they are definitely related...probably a 2nd cousin or somethin...

When I was scuba diving In Key Largo last summer, I found Cyano on the reef. After seeing that, I don't feel so bad when it shows up in my tank. Don't get me wrong, I still hate it but it just seems more normal now. FWIW, I also found the biggest bubble algae I've ever seen there.

Ive been having bright green slime problems for over a year now. Ive tried eeverything. I gave up and now just blow it off rocks and sand when it starts looking bad. Just a thought is the people with problems using red sea salt? Only thing i havent tried is switching salts
