Ok so i have a 65g fowlr. 40lbs rock and live sand. Fluval fx4 reef octopus hob1000. My tank is about 8 months old and up to about 6 months everything was fine besides the brown during cycling. I decided to add extra bag of sand after. A week later i started to get the red slime everywhere. I have been battling it ever since. For the last 2 months EVERY saturday i cleaned tank rocks and sand and every 2 weeks all my media except xponges was replaced. Today it looks like it is finally going away. All of that to get to this question..
Has the cyano run its course was it because i added the extra sand or could it be because i doubled up on my carbon this weekends cleaning. I have a fluval fx4 that i run a ton of media in. I appreciate anybody who takes the time to read this. I just dont want to make same mistake. My sand is white again i intend to keep it that way.

If the only thing you did differently was add the sand, then that is most likely what caused it. Cyano seems to come and go for a lot of people, taking advantage of any changes, such as the addition of new substrate, like you found out. Just keep up with your normal tank husbandry, and you should be fine. If not, I have had good luck with Chemi-Clean with no side effects.

Haha. I have it sitting right in front of me but have been afraid to use it. I told myself if this last cleaning didnt work i was gonna try it. Thanks..

Agreed with Waters, Chemi clean has done wonders for me as well.
Just make sure you prep a decent sized water change once you have the Chemi clean in there.
