Cyano

Definitely stop buying that water. They may use ro/di water but then they add a bunch of things back into it because it ro/di water tastes horrible and it's not good for you either. If you are going to buy water get jugs of distilled only.
No doubt. Closest fish store that sells it is probably 45 min away. Gonna definitely invest in my own

I Believe you need a good ro/di. I use this one and has great yield can be upgraded to 160 gph if you want more
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/5-stage-premium-plus-ro-di-system-bulk-reef-supply.html. Also, your tank needs more time. Go slow and everything will even its self out. Its how the universe works there's good and there's bad. It will even out
Wise words! I really like those ro units in the link. It would be a great investment for the fish and the house in general. Thank you!

I struggled with Cyno on my 180 gallon tank for month. My nitrate and phosphate were at zero so i started dosing to raise a bit. I added flow to the tank. I changed water frequency, used socks. Changed less frequently stop using socks. I documented and tried everything including blackout period. Last weekend i finally broke down and used Chemiclean. I was resistant to using this and wanted to address the cause of the Cyno but was getting too frustrated with all the turkey baster blasting. Chemiclean took care of all the Cyno in 2 days so far. I wont claim i fixed the problem unless it does not reappear but initial signs are very positive. Everything looks great in the tank so far.

Thought about that as well, keep me posted. I’m a little reluctant of dosing medicines in any application. The only thing I use in qt is prazi. I’ve had some problems with them in the past, plus most are just snake oil remedies...

I hear you. I spent 6 months trying to deal with Cyno without medication but was not able to crack it. I’ll let you know how it’s doing next week.

Chemiclean works for sure. I’d just be hesitant to use it on a new tank. +1 on the conchs. They are hard workers for the sand bed. I’d just get one or two for your sizes tank.

I honestly think you were on the right track by raising nutrients, but you also must strike a general balance between no3 and po4. What did you end up getting nutrients up to if you don't mind me asking?

Nitrates were at 4 ppm (Red Sea) and phosphates at .04 (Hanna)

Its been 3 weeks since i have used the Chemiclean and so far so good. The Cyno has not returned yet and the tank has not looked better. I am hoping the Chemiclean has broken the Cyno cycle and given other bacteria an opportunity to take over. My tank is a BB tank so its easy to keep relatively clean. My water changes focus on vacuuming debris on the bottom. Im still testing Nitrates and Phosphates to keep at lower levels.

Little update: I dosed bacteria at first and had pretty good results as far as reducing cyano number( slowed growth, break up of cyano “mats”).I caved and used chemi clean last week, just to remove the remnants. Also, the Culligan store near me sells RO water with a tds of 2, which I’m now using for water changes. My water test at 380, so I’m still troubleshooting options for home Ro/di system. Actually dropped all my levels near zero in the tank, got phosphate to .2. With that being said, now that my levels are low diatoms or Dino’s have kind of spurted up. ... just going to play it out!

.02*

Have fix one get another. I'm up against the cyano atm. Increasing flow for me come Friday
I chemicleaned the cyano, legend has it that it will disappear on its own... I haven’t seen the Cyanobacteria since the chemiclean and especially now that I have the dinoflagellates. good luck!
