I've got this growing only on my rock, can I put them in a bucket of ro/di and just use a toothbrush and brush it off? My RO/DI water had been bad for awhile and I think that's what caused this.

Thanks in advance

You can remove the rock but if its cyano then it should siphon off leaving the rock in place. If you have to scrub to get it off then it is not cyano. I have a red algae on my rocks (not cyano) and it looks ok adding to the natural reef look

Do you have a pic? I'd be interested to see. I have really nutrient rich waters. Its collected and filtered by a research facility here and they have a public tap for us to take as much as we want. I've been thinking I'm getting cyano but it really doesn't blow off or siphon off. Even scrubbing it doesn't easily remove it. I'll take a pic in a bit. But interested to see yours

If it is hard and crusty, you might have coralline algae which is good. I can blow cyano off rocks pretty well with a big turkey baster.

Thinking mine is red algae. I upgraded tanks all day yesterday. Pulled all the rocks and tried to rub all the red off. It's on pretty good but doesn't just fall off like cyano.

Mine appears to be red algae as it can't be just blown off the rock. I actually added some Chemiclean 3 days ago and it hasn't touched it so it's not cyano. I've had cyano in the past and it carpets over everything like a red velvet carpet.
