Hello I have some of this what looks like a brownish purple algae growing on my rock. It looks like an isolated to only one piece of small live rock the best to remove this from my tank? I'm not sure if it's cyanobacteria or not.

I think that it looks more like dinoflagellates to me. Do a search on treating dinos with H2O2. Also, go to reefcleaners.com and look at their nuissance algae identification, and treatment section.

That's not cyano....you'd see it in your sand as well.

You didn't mention how old the tank is.....it does go through some nasty stages when it's young. It's a test to see if you can take disappointment. :squigglemouth:

Redfishbluefish.... That is funny and so true your tank is young only about a month. Dealing with vermited snails and some weird algae. Thank God for these forms or else I go out of my mind lol.

Cyano always started in the sand in my tank, too, until the last time where none on the sand, but it started on rocks.
