Cyanobacteria

I have a sump full of cyanobacteria and keeping my tank clean by lowering nitrate and phosphate. I don't have cyanobacteria In my tank coz i suction them to the sump. Is this ok. I have my sump light on keeping the cyano alive in my sump.

Actually, yes! For a period of about 8 months, I had a similar issue and the refugium chamber of my sump was covered in cyano, but there wasn't a trace of it (that I could see) anywhere else in my system. It basically took the place of chaeto or other macro algae (I had used flucanozole to get rid of bryopsis and it killed my chaeto... I had not gotten around to replacing it).
If I had not moved and broken down the tank, I don't know how long I might have had my cyano fuge!

I've taken out cyano out of the tank and into the filter to the sump. My chaeto died and the cyano took its place. Still haven't done water changes. Just auto top off.

So, the cyano is still forming in your display? Then you have an imbalance that needs to be corrected.

How old is your tank, what are your parameters, what filtration do you have...?

I've filtered out all the cyano out of the tank and I've haven't seen them in months. Water is crystal clear. No water changes.
My parameters:
Alk 11.9
Calcium 562
Ph 8.21
Sal 1.026
Mg 1550

Don't have problem with cyano I just vacuum them out of the tank with my diy suction.

I have the tank for 3yrs 90gl acrylic. With a 40 gall sump. Protein skimmer reef octo. All of my live stock looks good.
