cycing live sand

The salesman at my lfs told me that there was no need to cycle live sand, that it cannot cause enough of a cycle to be dangerous. This is the opposite of what I had previously understood, as I thought live sand needed to be cycled just like live rock.

Is that correct that live sand needs to be cycled before adding fish and coral

If its live then it shouldn't be a problem. Like did it come out of a tank then right into another?

I would like to change the substrate out on an existing tank that i just bought and am moving.

I would think it would be fine.
