It’s been 4 days since I’ve started cycling the tank. Put a shrimp + phos start + nitribiotic. But 0 ammonia still. Is that normal?

Using shrimp can take 2 to 4 weeks for results and you need enough shrimp for your tank size.

Can’t get any ammonia to dose here. Any idea how many shrimps I need for a 310 gallon?

Just get some liquid ammonia and dose to what equals your tank size then add nitrifying bacteria. Do this a couple times. When you see ammonia completely at 0 within 24 hours and sufficient nitrate numbers you are good to go. Finish with 50% water change.

The best way is the proper way, as described above. Please don't use fish, its cruel. The shrimp method takes forever. Get a bottle of ammonia from the pharmacy, it will cost less than $5.

Can’t get ammonia so decided to throw more prawns to give it a try. (200gm) water stinks now but still 0 ammonia

Ok. Used Brightwell microbacter quickcycle . Dosed 60 ml for 300 gallons as per instruction 3 days ago. Ammonia badge indicated 0.05ppm ammonia. But salifert test kit shows 0. Tested nitrate and it’s at 0 too. Any reason for this? Should I add more ammonia?

Question

per that tank pic above

what is missing from this reef cycle that is supposed to be present in all reef cycles? It’s something stackable, heavy, you can glue things to them
