So I'm 12 days into my cycle. All rock was bleached and have cleaned dead sand as well from previous tank. I started the cycle with some conch and a shrimp.

Just started seeing nitrites today. So far been running with no lights and light skimmer use.

In the past I've done lights and skimmer since I had short cycles using live sand and rock.
Any pros/cons to start running lights on a schedule?

I'm cycling with new cured live rock. I'm putting my lights on during the day - I thought the rock would "die" without lighting. Am I wrong?

Yeah that's definitely not the case, lights have no effect on nitrifying bacteria, except for UV light, which is bad for them, so definitely no sterilizers!

light will not effect the bacteria in the tank and should have no impact on the cycle. Try to avoid light since the tank will be nutrient rich and algae might start growing.

I'd keep the lights off for now. You don't want a huge algae outbreak when the numbers are so high.
