Hi there newbie here. What is the best way to cycle? Atm colony and stock 25% straight away or fishless? I have 326litre with a sump live sand and real reef rock. I’ll be using seawater. Any suggestions welcome thanks

post #2 here is guaranteed to work in all tanks like yours

saves me a quick retype take pics when you have started and completed the run and we can use your post in cycle study threads. bottle bac pinch of food several drops ammonia fifteen days you're cycled.

That helps a lot thanks what bacteria would you recommend I have some microbacter xlm but that says don’t use with live sand

http://www.fishforums.net/aquarium-calculator.htm

in smaller setups we don't care how much ammonia they add within reason because a large water change at the end equalizes everything

in the case of a large system/not practical to change water at the end use this cal above to set your ammonia levels to 1 ppm, not 2.
add in the amount of dr tims from that calculator one time to make your volume 1 ppm and you'll be set for ammonia. testless

we wouldn't need a single test to make this happen. even if you buy half dead bottle bac which no cycling thread Ive ever been in had bought, waiting fifteen days with feed and ammonia will bring the naturals out anyway. testless cycle.

you can use any bac made with live sand

I like biospira too. when reading bottle bac labels, if it doesn't say its for cycling a tank then its a cleaning bacteria/digestion so get the kind used for cycling.
